ABOUT FILE UNDER POP

File Under Pop is driven out of passion for creative surface design. The company specializes in clothing floors, walls and ceilings in a curated universe of color and tactile textures using clay and lava stone tiles, paint and wallpaper.

The Copenhagen-based company, directed by Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer, transforms rooms by equipping surfaces with tiles crafted from Spanish clay and Italian lava stone, hand-painted wallpaper and durable, supermatt paint. All products are processed entirely by hand, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, resulting in characteristic surfaces.

»To create a space is like conducting an orchestra. You leave out some instruments, you intensify others, you insert pauses in order to create spaces for dwelling. File Under Pop Studio is located in the centre of Copenhagen, next to the Marble Church and Metro Station ‘Marmorkirken’ on Frederiksgade 1, 1st floor.

File Under Pop invites you to explore our two paint and tile shops, located at Bohrsgade 32 and Esplanaden 6 in Copenhagen. The shops are fully functioning paint shops and paint pick-up points, offering a whole new take on color consulting and spatial guidance within the File Under Pop range of paint colors, tiles and surface design. The shop on Bohrsgade 32 is open Monday to Friday from 11am to 5.30pm as well as Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. The shop on Esplanaden 6 is open Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 5.30pm as well as Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.

FILE UNDER POP COLLECTIONS

File Under Pop Tiles - The File Under Pop tile collection consists of 44 colors represented in the ‘Pop Solid Color Collection’ as well as a collection of 16 decorated tiles. All colors are available as hand-crafted lava stone and clay tiles, and all tiles are available in a ‘Matt’ and a ‘Shiny’ or a ‘Shiny Crystal’ finish. File Under Pop Paint - The File Under Pop paint collection consists of 96 curated colors designed to elevate surfaces individually or by combining multiple shades. All File Under Pop paint is produced in collaboration with Jotun Denmark. The paint is distinguished by a super-matt finish containing only of 1% gloss, while being washable and long lasting. File Under Pop Objects - All File Under Pop objects are born out of the distinctive color universe and dedication to hand-crafted design. File Under Pop wallpapers are hand-painted with colors from the paint collection in combination with copper, silver, white gold and gold leaf. JOSEPHINE AKVAMA HOFFMEYER

Founder and creative director of File Under Pop, Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer, has been following creative urges for many years. Prior to launching her first tile company in 2001, she lived a life filled with music – founding her own band, studying music in New York City and working as a choir singer for renowned Danish and international artists.

In the year 2000 Akvama Hoffmeyer left Denmark to travel out into the world. She moved to Italy, and was soon drawn to the ancient volcano Mount Etna in Sicily - the source of lava stone, which is now turned into delicate File Under Pop-tiles. In 2015, Akvama Hoffmeyer once again decided to throw herself into an creative adventure. This time, the aim was to merge solid tiles with delicate paper in the form of hand-painted wallpaper as well as a curated color universe of exclusive paint. The company was named File Under Pop, giving a nod to her love of music. Since its launch in 2015, File Under Pop has grown into a color universe of 96 shades complemented by a collection of vases, textile and bespoke objects.

»At File Under Pop, we work with relations between colors, materials, and space. We work with the concept of 'sense of place', which is based on the idea of unlocking the potential of a space. Finding its roots, which are the link and mediators of the natural state and order of things. In our minds, a home should be able to accommodate as many aspects, colors, and nuances of life as possible. You should experience a feeling of belonging in your home. 

A place is not static and should never stagnate. It should instead be in motion like life itself and able to support changes in functionality and needs. We believe in lively and dynamic spaces.

We experience colors through light. Colors and light are inseparable. We believe that encounters and refractions between different surfaces contribute to the experience of color. Colors are not superficial. They have the potential to uncover more than they cover. They can enhance, distort, and beautify. They can make visible, what is actual and real.

Honesty serves and supports us throughout life. 

Colors have an impact on people. They are substantial and help to create, shape, nuance and define our reality«.
